About the cover:

Where would Louisiana be without alligator sauce piquant, alligator skin belts and boots, guided alligator hunts and swamp tours highlighted with feature appearances by these coastal lizards? This year's directory cover captures the importance that the American alligator adds to our state's culture, economic identity and ecosystem. Alligators have become an important renewable resource of Louisiana, with the hunting, commercial farming, harvesting and trade of this species regulated at both the state and federal level.

About the artist:
Carolyn Crosby France, 57, is the last of six children born to "Armand" and Adrienne Crosby. She is married to Pat France, has one son and two step children. She knew at a young age she had a talent for sketching and drawing but always wanted to paint. About 1982, one of her sisters, Millie, told her of a new organization, Les Artistes du Bayou, which held monthly meetings with mini workshops afterwards. She joined and it's with these mini workshops she began her painting and art hobby. Carolyn says when asked which is her favorite medium, she'll answer "whatever medium I'm using at the time." One of her dreams is to one day have an art studio with a large area where local art teachers could hold art classes.
